58 AD. The XIV Legion under the command of General Suetonius and the Tribune, Gnaeus Julius Agricola, march west on a mission to crush insurgent tribes in Rome's newest Province, Britannia.
Fergus MacAmergin is an officer in a Celtic auxiliary cavalry regiment that rides alongside them. As the British tribes wage guerrilla war on the Romans, Fergus falls foul of his commander. His punishment is to lead a squad of men on a suicidal mission deep behind enemy lines. Joining forces with Agricola, Fergus is tasked with finding a mystical spear, said to be the weapon that pierced the side of Jesus Christ on the cross.
As the mission unfolds, it becomes clear that there is more to the spear than meets the eye and he is heading directly for a confrontation with dark forces from his past.

When I first started to read this novel I feared that it was going to be a historical fantasy novel. Not so. What at first seems to be para normal is eventually shown to be mere physical phenomenon. The action in this story is ferocious and frequent. One often fails to see how Fergus and Agricola could possibly get out of situations in which they find themselves but they do persevere. The plot line involving Celts, Druids and Roman legionaries, gives the author full reign to delve into all aspects of Roman camps, Celtic fortresses, egocentric Roman generals, religious rituals, and, of course, fiercely fought battles. Then too, there is the realistic dialogue and true to life characterization. All in all, it is a very fascinating novel.

A good tale; but so many typo's it was hard to read smoothly. I don't understand why digital books can't be at least proofread before putting them on the market.
Lotsa action! Great characters. Good story filled with intrigue and plot twists. The historical context is a bonus that will familiarize you with Roman Britannia and Hibernia.I thoroughly enjoyed reading the story. I've read several other historical novels from this time period and setting and this book stacks up very well by comparison.
This book is filled with lots of action. The dialogue and descriptions are well done. The historic parts of the plot seem to be accurate. The plot itself us the right degree of mystery and tension.
