Illusive Intrusion Tomasz Chrusciel 9780992957414 Books

This was an impressive read from a debut author. While it's definitely a mystery/thriller/romance, it doesn't really fit into any "one" category, nor does it offer contrived plot lines or cookie-cutter characters. I found the interactions between Goyo and the two sisters - and even Elizabeth - to be interesting and dynamic. The dialogue was witty and really pulls you into the scene. The author did a particular good job at choosing the setting for something equal parts exotic, dark, and thrilling. It feels like everything is just sort of "random" but wait until you get to the end. It will all make sense!

Don't expect an easy read, though "Illusive Intrusion" certainly offers an exciting adventure. The author doesn't hold your hand; you have to really pay attention while reading. The book is intelligently written, with many clues and even backstories left to the reader to figure out.

While it may not be for everyone, it was refreshing to read something "new" (ahem, original) and especially from a debut author. The book was intriguing, to say the least. I look forward to reading more from this new author.

Illusive Intrusion Tomasz Chrusciel 9780992957414 Books Reviews

This isn't my typical read and I'm not too sure what I can say about this. The pace is easy and I liked getting to know the story and get into it before anything major really happens. Then you start getting pulled into the story more and find that its an interesting book and it won't lose your attention.

As it builds up, I started to get into the book and ended up enjoying this book much more than I thought. I love the characters. They are written well and interact well eachother. This is not an easy read, so be ready for when you read the book. There isnt anything held back and you get a really nice detail story.

Sanity is tested and trust is either earned or lost for good. Bianka doesn't get the perfect trip that she was thinking of. Instead she encounters a blackout. Then her sanity starts to be tested and Niamh’s trust and friendship might be out the window. I loved how it progressed and you can see yourself in the story.

Overall I enjoyed this story and would read more from the author.
I don't know how capable I am to review this book as it's not in the genres I normally read. But as a fellow self-published author (of poetry) I wanted to read and review his work.
The book starts off sort of slow, but I found that was a good thing, because once you get into the real story, it picks up and sends you swirling through twists and turns almost like a tornado.
Bianka and her sister Niamh are going on a sort of holiday/vacation plus work assignment for Niamh, as she's a 17 yr. old with her first modeling gig. The book jumped around quite a lot, but with some going back a few pages, I was able to keep up pretty well. The characters are not overly defined and are multi-faceted which like any human is true.
I was sort of thrown for a loop at the end with the "witchcraft" (for lack of a better word) and revenge aspect, but not in a bad way. I think maybe more of a lover's triangle minus the "witchcraft" would have done the trick. (but that's my opinion)
I believe the foundation is here for a good read, however, maybe more planning of the characters and scenes and movement between scenes, would have definitely enhanced my reading pleasure.
There are some typos, that a good proofreader before publishing could have caught.

My personal guide for star ratings are as follows 5 stars, equal to best book I've read in a long time, highly recommended; 4 stars, no major complaints, well written; 3 stars, either format or typos impaired my reading flow however, the foundation for a good book is here; less than 3 stars, I struggled with this book, either format/typos were too great or the concept/foundation of the book did not fit my taste. It doesn't mean you won't like the book, if it sounds like something you'd like, then you should see for yourself.

*note*I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review, I have no affiliation to the author.
I enjoyed this debut novel on the whole. Chrusciel clearly enjoys his travelling and combines a working holiday to Gran Canaria by two of his protagonists with a jaunt through Europe and North Africa by a boyfriend. He writes well when describing locations with good use of imagery. I had no problem in framing mental pictures of his various locations.

His characters too are well-drawn; a feisty young woman (Niamh) with dreams of becoming a professional model, a protective older sister (Bianka), a struggling photographer (Goyo) with a seductive history and a slightly alarmingly possessive boyfriend (Kacpar).

The plot too begins convincingly with Niamh and Bianka travelling to Gran Canaria to meet the photographer Goyo and working with him. A bit too obviously there is immediate sexual tension in the air. And then a mysterious outage plunges the island into isolation. A mysterious figure from Goyo’s past appears – Elizabeth, who has him in thrall. A good scenario.

Then I believe the author loses much of what he has built up with an over-complicated denouement which involves the ancient keepers of the island’s purity and a mixture of fantasy and reality that I found difficult to follow. The end is reached and I didn’t really understand what had happened.

Chrusciel is a good writer and I’ll look out for his next book. But a good editor would not allow him to fail at the last when he has his reader gripped.
